Fear Of Clicking Publish

In an earlier post titled Online Blogs vs Private Journals, I wrote about the fear of writing in public:

I’m hypercritical of everything, agonizing over every word. Writing even a short post, status update, or reply takes me hours. I’m also guilty of editing a post dozens of times after clicking the publish button. It sucks the joy out of writing. A couple of people contacted me, saying they could relate. It was reassuring to hear I’m not the only one!

It’s great to be part of a community where people are open and honest about their struggles and support each other. We’re all working to become better writers, which requires lots of practice.

For some, clicking publish is a big deal. They aren’t comfortable putting their thoughts online—I know I am not. But we must push past that resistance.

I'll leave you with this quote from Steven Pressfield's book, The War of Art:

Nothing else matters except sitting down every day and trying.
