These resources will help if you are new to Inktober or returning for another year and need some inspiration to break out your sketchbook.

What Is Inktober?

Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year.

Inktober Rules

1. Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).
2. Post it*
3. Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2024
4. Repeat

*Post it on any social media account you want or just post it on your refrigerator. The point is to share your art with someone. 🙂

Common Questions

Q: Do I have to use the official prompt list?

A: No. The prompts are there to help spark your creativity. If you have another great idea, go for it!

Q: Do I have to use the prompts in order?

A: Nope. But the cool thing about following the prompt list in order is seeing what everybody creates on the same day using the same prompt and how much variety and creativity there is inside of a single word.

Q: Can I work digitally?

A: Yes. Initially, the challenge of Inktober was focused on traditional inking. Although learning how to ink digitally is a skill separate from traditional inking it is no less valid.

We are only a few weeks away from Inktober 2024! As it is a month long art challenge, it can be quite a big commitment so It’s usefull to prepare and plan even if it is a rough one, this helps break it down into more manageable steps and so we can complete see it through to the end of the month whilst still having fun!
